Well its true about learning something new everyday. I thought they grew on trees….
No wonder the world thinks we are uneducated! Lot of people think that pineapple grows on trees!😂😅🤣
I have three going at the moment. Just twist the bunch of leaves off the top of a pineapple you have bought, stand it over water, just touching, and you’ll see roots appearing after a week or so Once you have a decent set of roots, plant in well drained soil in a pot. Only ever water into the bunch of leaves. They are members of the bromeliads, so don’t water under the leaves and never leave standing in stagnant water. You’ll need to exercise a bit of patience, but eventually you will be able to enjoy home grown pineapple.
Unfortunately, the ones grown in Hawaii are generally just for the tourists. Not enough profit to ship out but, I’ve never tasted a better pineapple than those in Hawaii! Fully ripened, sweet and juicy!!!
I’ve grown them in my yard. Just cut top off a pineapple to eat it and stick the top in the dirt. It will grow and produce a fruit in about two years.
Never knew they grew on the ground
My brother recently said he wanted to plant his own pineapple tree, I told him it would be impossible, he replied he would use a green house ( we live in Colorado) I told him it would STILL be impossible as pineapples don’t grow on trees
This would make a fine border wall addition. Who would want to travel through acres of pineapples….???
If the top is cut off will another pineapple grow?
That is not how pineapples grow naturally. They are bromeliads and grow amongst the other plants. This is a photo of a crop (after deforestation, levelling the ground and using herbicides).
Just cut the top off the pineapple and put it in the ground.. I read somewhere if you place apple slices down in the top when you plant it ,the pineapples will grow sooner.
Pineapple farmer here I already know how they grow
When we lived in Hawaii we were close to the pineapple and sugarcane fields nothing tasted better then cold fresh pineapple
After harvest they would burn the fields off what a awful smell
For those school teachers who told my daughter at school that she was wrong and that pineapples grew on trees. 😆😅
I have pineapple plants just cut the top snd plant it
Brought 2 cases back with me when I went to Hawaii. There’s nothing better like fresh pineapple! YUM!💖👍
In Hawaii I drove out to the field where they grow them, it’s amazing and the pineapple tastes so good.
Pineapple PLANT, not pineapple tree.
I put the top of a pineapple directly in dirt did very well got two pineapples first year so good
……….in a pineapple field I’ll bet 🤡
Up until a few years ago I thought they grew in the ground like a carrot and that’s because I never saw one in bloom. Now I want some pineapple.
We had an enjoyable day picking pineapples in Hawaii. Very interesting and delicious!
I’m growing 2 pineapple plants
many years ago, on my first trip to Africa I was “gobsmacked” seeing pineapples growing on a bromeliad type plant. 😉
Grow them in my yard . Just cut the top off stick it in the ground and it will grow. They are really sweet when the ripen.
How do they harvest pineapples ?
I love fresh pineapple when I was 23 years old I went to Hawaii for the first time for my husband’s R&R from Vietnam and I had no idea how pineapple grew and I found out from the fields there. I was from Michigan never thought how pineapples grew.
We grow lots of pineapples in hawaii,,,,, it takes 2 years to grow,,,,,so sweet and good
ppl sit around and wonder how pineapples grow?? its a common sight here in Asia. LMAO!!!
I learned about Pineapple “trees” from “Jonah,Man Jazz” in the sixties and never even thought they weren’t on trees!!
I went to Hawaii 50 years ago and saw this
I’d rather be there than here.
My wife and I were on vacation in Maui. We came upon an accident where a truck carrying pineapples flipped on its side. The truck driver was telling everyone to take as many as we want. It’s just less for him to clean up. We had fresh pineapple for the rest of our vacation.
This ones growing in my garden
No pineapple grown in Hawiia.now in Costa Rica
I understood that it takes up to two years to grow a pineapple and only 1-2 per plant. If that is true, I can’t believe they are as inexpensive as they are. Can anyone confirm what I was told?
If you didn’t know how pineapples grow,
Do you know HOW PEANUTS GROW..???
After a year or two you will get one pineapple. The following year or two you may get 1 or 2 smaller pineapples. Most farms just start a new plant after they get the one pineapple.
