How do you know that the woodpecker did that to the tree. No animal of any kind should be killed just because you see it as a pest. We don’t go killing people because they may be a pest to us. If we did no one would be alive. God created us all to love one another, all creation.
That is a piliated woodpecker and they are a foot tall. I Would not do anything like that that was a chainsaw and they left the ashes or is it chips the bird just came along and look for what was left
woodpecker was after the bug tunneling thru the tree. Alot of people don’t under stand how it works . The tree was dieing anyways..Cut the tree down and plant a new one.
I saw a woodpecker do this to a tree in the woods behind my house. They would only do this looking for bugs in dead trees. Really amazing to see what a little woodpecker can do!
I love watching them big ones,, and as a tree contractor ,the tree had to be full of bugs ,or he won’t do that ,they spot check trees for bugs till they find a soft spot or hear a hollow spot ,then that’s where they drill ,because they know food is there ,there protected in Florida ,they kill off a lot of pesty bugs ,like pine bark Beatle ,and have been known to actually save a tree hear and there ,by eating the bugs before they destroy the tree ,
Squirrels are eating down my back porch and my deck and they havenโt had anything to drink but Iโm gonna give them something that they wonโt forget it then Iโll get away

Woodpecker is totally an overachiever
We have a tree just like this in our yard. Red Headed Woodpeckers are huge.
Our cat Rocky caught one of these and turned it loose in the house!
we have had this happen to many trees here in the Pocono mountains, I never saw the woodpecker doing his Thing. workRk Makes good sense!!
Squirrels are eating down my back porch and my deck and they havenโt had anything to drink but Iโm gonna give them something that they wonโt forget it then Iโll get away
Don’t they get a headache? They are a wonder to watch how hard they work just to get
to eat those little critters.
Kill the bugs, not the predator.
A woodpecker ruined the porch railing on my daughter porch. I guess the insect went into the hole and it kept pecking cause it has got to be replaced.
What does this remind you of Ryan Cady?
Nice chainsaw work. Hope the wood pecker finds some bugs too.
Must be a Canadian Woodpecker on Weed.Never seen anything like that before now. ha,ha
he removes dead wood an bugs, does not hurt tree
This is a pileated woodpecker and they absolutely do this to a tree. Thereโs a couple trees right down the road from me that are pecked like this.
Stuck in a rut…
The pleated woodpecker did this to a tree on my property, it’s a infected tree taking it down next spring.
