No. Teachers should be able to teach this and cursive.
My mom taught me to tell time, to count money. How to write my name. What is wrong with parents? Don’t use the lame excuse that mothers work outside the home.
My mom worked 6 days a week 10 to 16 hours a day. Did the cleaning, the cooking, the laundry, the shopping and taught us kids right from wrong.

NOOOO!!! Aren’t our kids there to learn?!?! They should learn to read those analog clocks, if they don’t they’ll never be able to read clocks at a doctors office or in a library!! If we change the clock style in the schools then we’ll need to change them everywhere!!! That is NOT the answer!!!!! 😡😡😡😡😡😡

Why is this even a problem, what are the parrents doing, I am 71 and bet most of us could tell time before we started school. Now days the kids starting college are dumber than a box of rocks and have no common sense, there are a few exceptions but really, we are seeing the products of liberalism.

Makes me sick how we give in and try to make the lives of the younger generations easier and easier. I bet they can’t tie their shoes because of velcro. They don’t have to read instructions because of icons. They are given choices for meals and expect to be entertained. Is it any wonder when life doesn’t go their way many will throw temper tantrums, destroy other peoples property and in the worst case imaginable, commit suicide. Is there no responsible adults out there who will take some time to teach a child right from wrong, how to do chores, how to show respect, courtesy, honesty. How we all WORK together in a family to give us some down time. Life isn’t all about fun and being catered to.

Today’s children are nothing but a bunch of dumb s***and it’s all thanks to teachers in school ,and a lot it falls on the parents to I have three children taught all three of them how to tell time on a clock also taught all three of them how to change a flat on a car and also taught them how to drive that car why don’t these parents take a little time out of their pathetic lives and teaches children some of life skills instead of letting them just go their own way tighten up parents you got a job to do .

I can’t read them and I’m 24 I have learning disability and it’s hard for me to count it and same way with money I can’t count money and I tried casher but I couldn’t count it fast enough for enough to do the job but I am trying to learn and I still have trouble reading it’s to confusing when the words to close to each other like in the Bible I have to have someone read it for me the print to small and my grammer and spelling isn’t good either an I got held back 4-5 times but eventually I passed because I got held back to many times and I did give up on it too.. I understand that much 🙂 but I keep going cause hopefully one day I can build a car without any error it’s a dream and it’s something I’m working on 🙂

Since it is school, maybe the smart thing to do is TEACH the kids how to tell time. Google “Stupid in America” and watch it. Schools are so busy teaching sexual dysfunction and keeping parents out of schools that there isn’t any time for the subjects they should be teaching.

I’ve been a paramedic for 36 years. When I retired I started subbing School first off I cannot believe how ignorant I mean ignorant it’s just the plain word that the school children are and it’s all of them. It is a parent’s responsibility to teach kids certain things like to tell time to be responsible to tie their shoes last year I had a kid in the ninth grade that did not know how to tie his own shoes he doesn’t have a learning disability he’s just freaking ass lazy apparently like his parents our society has come to a very very sad situation and for us people that are over 40 which I am 55 these kids nowadays or world is going to hell in a handbasket they’re not even going to know how to wipe their own ass

I remember my dad teaching me. I taught my children. Don’t parents teach their children anything anymore? Even my grandmother took the time to teach me. However her clock was always 10 minutes early so she wouldn’t be late. I learned the hour, quarter past, half past, quarter of, first. Before I went to school

Of course not, just teach them, it is an area of the curriculum in number, that way of thinking there would be no need for school at all because today’s kids can’t do things therefore don’t teach them, how ridiculous.

First of all, the kids should know how to tell time from home, before attending school. SOME parents are just to LAZY to teach kids potty training, tell time & how to be RESPECTFUL to others. Don’t blame everything on the teachers. A child is born without knowledge, but quickly learn habits of their home life. You can sure tell from a 1st grade child, what the home life is like. Put God back in our schools.

The clocks need to stay and kids need to learn to tell time. Take away calculators, computers . They need to use their heads and think instead of letting machines think for them. Teachers need to teach and so do parents. What if electric goes out and cell towers go down? What are these kids going to do?.

I believe the majority of today’s kids are good, intelligent persons, eager to learn. They are not interested in “shortcutting” the learning process. However, there are the few cry babies who want their hands held, their butts wiped and be spoon fed instead of making a little effort to improve themselves. These few numbskulls will eventually fall by the wayside while those who are eager to learn and implement their knowledge with hard work will prevail. Remember, “the empty vessel hath the greater sound”, and the cry babies, while making a lot of noise, just spin their wheels in the journey of life. To make a long story short, my answer is “no”, keep the clocks as they are, and let kids learn how to read them.

That’s why they’re in school to learn.! They need to start teaching kids reading writing and arithmetic and let them know that history is past not something to grieve over now.! Next Step would be to teach them a trade something that’s going to walk them in life if they don’t have a career in mind. I’m not a real smart person but duh

Here is a thought—teach the kids how to tell time! We have so much talk these days about taxpayers paying for free college, but I think we should get back to basics with k-12 education so people actually get out of high school with a good education! The system seems to be failing at that.

Should schools remove books because some kids can’t read – how silly. For those with dyslexia or other similar problems – we must quit designing our society for the least capable – there will be absolutely no progress and soon no society if we keep this up. We must give extra help to those who require it but on no circumstance should we lower the requirements of the most capable. We are not all the same.

No way. Children need to be taught to read a clock with only a face ans hands.
Children also need to be taught to make change. If my McDonald’s bill is $6.37 they should automatically be able to count my change without a cash register or computer screen telling them how much.
They need to be able to reconcile a check book….banks can make an error and many people today would not even realize it unless it was a big amount.

I saw comments on here to the point of calling the children stupid know the children are not stupid they have never been taught the proper way to tell the time on an analog clock that is the parents job and the teacher’s job if they can’t tell time because they can’t read that clock then someone needs to sit down and teach them how to use it properly because everywhere there go there’s not going to be a digital clock when I was a child we brought paper plates to school and Drew the picture of a clock face on it and put moving hands on it and we learn to tell time that way and if they meaning of the teachers or the parents either one do not still do this then they’re not teaching properly

Instead of removing the clocks, teach the kids to read them. The kids are getting too lazy for words, but teachers are even lazier. Rather than “fight the battle” of teaching kids to read a clock, they just give in and deny the kids an opportunity to earn something useful. As a retired teacher, and high school kids at that, I know how hard it is to try to get kids to learn something. However, I stuck with what I was doing, and many of my former students have come back to me and told me that they were so glad I made them learn the things I taught them.

I live in Scotland and our kids are taught both ….all our clocks, with the exception of our phones, are not digital and my 10 year old son can tell the difference. I agree that teachers have got a much bigger workload now than when i was at school but these are basic teaching skills which are very important. As parents; both myself and my partner do take an active part in our son’s education which sadly is lacking a lot nowadays.
