Barcelona. Was there a number of times. Still being built. Look carefully, it is huge. Those spires are over 300 ft. Designed by Gaudi, started construction in late 1800s.
Simply wonderful! And the world needs such things. Those of you who are hurrumphing, have you given up YOUR luxuries to contribute time or money to the homeless and hungry?
I will NOT apologise for my opinion ! These types of so-called God glorifying edifices sicken me when there are so many people in the world who are hungry, sick and dying. I do not believe this is being paid for by tourists ! These contributions would hardly touch the finance required for this extravaganza.
Joanne remember we saw this when we were in Barcelona? We didn’t go in. After we came home, the Pope went to have it consecrated. I wonder it they are done building it. Beautiful!
Visited last year. Picture does not do it justice! It is breathtakingly no! Stayed across the street and could enjoy such a gorgeous view at night with lights!
I went twice to this Amazing Master architectural beautiful Church and, yes we as a tourist pay for this construction it is expensive as a Vatican, it doesn’t hurting no body I still donated for the hungry children’s and old people I just don’t understand why? I should not go and enjoy myself with this Amazing creation from a Men who dedicated his life for this Master Piece. It all those people thinking or critize this church, let me asking something and be honest. Are you donate or helping those poor people? Or you yes shout out something you didn’t do.
And by the way Spain health Care or poor people it’s not high like USA.
I saw this place last summer. It truly is a marvel.
Then interior design is absolutely breathtaking probably even more so than the outside because it uses light to tell the stories. It’s an amazing architectural Wonder.
There are many aspects to be considered when one judges the worth of such magnificent monuments as this. While it is true that the money involved could feed and house many, it should also be taken into consideration how it makes so many people feel and that it is very doubtful that this money would have been spent for the homeless and hungry, anyway. There is really no reason we can’t have both. There are plenty of resources available, enough to wipe out hunger everywhere and enough money floating around. It’s just enough incentive to get it to the needy that is missing.
This church has taken over 100 years to finish. We saw it in 1997 and it was nearly finished then. It is absolutely beautiful. I think it takes a different mind to think of this.
It is beautiful. But the money spent on it could have been put to better use ! The hungry, poor , homeless , those without the means to have medical help, the list is endless!😟
Not fond of the ‘lacy looking” buildings in Spain. Of all the cathedrals and palaces in Europe, the less “frilly” ones appealed to me. It’ just my nature I guess!
I loved it internally more than externally, but as with all great artists, he had original style and he expressed it! If you curb that, the world would be a sad place, through history there have been many negative responses, to Hieronymus Bosch, Vincent, Oscar Wilde, but thanks to their original style we have reference and something that will go down the ages, be studied, stared at and enjoyed….and for that….it’s worth it 🙂
Guess you can say about the costs and the.Pope has consecrated it! But what about the Italians ? The Vatican -the money the Catholic Church spend there, and there are children and adults that need help too’
The Vatican have a lot to answer to!!!!
It is truly very different. I’ve seen it several times and it’s always under construction. We were told they don’t work on it unless the money is there to pay for it.
My retirement home? I hope they have elevators! They had been building it for decades when I was there over four decades ago, I wonder if they will ever finish it.
This is century’s old the poor and hungry will always be here ! What about all the Modern mega churches that are popping up all over our Country these churches were man made to worship in how laughable that is ! I myself don’t Trust any organized religion be careful were you go and whom you tithe your money with , In god I trust !

Sorry, but it’s one huge mess. They keep adding on & adding on….it’s a mish-mosh of different structures all rolled onto one.
One of the greatest churches I have ever visited. I walked to the top of one of the tall spires to get a good view of Barcelona.

This cathedral is absolutely amazing. The stone carvings, the Windows of light magnificent. I was fortunate to see and your it!

A world without art is dead. This is a work of art… amazingly organic and totally different from anything else in the world.
I loved it internally more than externally, but as with all great artists, he had original style and he expressed it! It is being paid by tourists, no one is going hungry over this architectural wonder. Called Vatican two by the Pope!
How did they get up there before they had all the building machinery we have now? Impressive building. Wonder who paid for it?

We enjoyed certain aspects of the city, did not care for the treatment by some of the refugees who are pouring in due to their open door policy.
Was there last week its supposed to be finished in 2026, the centenary of Gaudi’s death. 15 years ago it was a shell, what a transformation!
What a waste of money for materialism. Think how many homes could of been built for those who have nothing, no food no clothing. Greed……
How come the church is the biggest building in town…
Do you not think God could find All you fine people ??
Truly even more magnificent when there in person!!!! Was there 35 – 40 yrs ago!!!! Thanks for the memories!!
