THE CRAWLING HAND: I was 3 yrs old and my older brother was babysitting me and sat me down with him, so he could watch it. 1966/blk&white movie, but it scared the crap out of me and I never slept near the edge of the bed for about 35yrs. lol
The Exorcist. Hands down. Took me a long time to come to grips with it. I still have not seen the whole movie. I ran out after the puking of pea soup. Cannot bring myself to watch the rest of it. It has been over 30 years.
Jaws, I still can not swim in the ocean! When visiting Hawaii we were swimming in Hanama Bay my husband and I were quite large at the time I refused to swim out as far as he was because I figured any shark out there would be full by the time he got to me!!!!!!!
House of Wax. Vincent Price. I was horrified LOL. Every time I was with my mother at department stores I would look at the mannequins and I thought they were real bodies underneath.
The THING, when they opened the door and the THING was behind it, they slammed the door and caught the hand, and the thorns kept popping. scared the Sh*t out of me. The remake was not worth watching. I think James Arness played the thing in the original.
The Birds, Alfred Hitchcock..a week after watching it I was taken to Birmingham, shopping and almost went hysterical when all the birds on the building ledges began squawking en masse. It took a few minutes for mum to calm me down.
Rosemary’s Baby. It had been banned by the Catholic Church. I went to see it any way with my girlfriend and I paid dearly for it.
I still feel terrible about it.
Nightmare on Elm Street saw it when i was like 6 that shit was so scary my room was in the basement with this old fireplace and it looked like a boiler room or something no wonder i have nightmares as an adult
Exorcist! I was around 11, first time watching the movie. First and only time I have known a earth quake to shake Nova Scotia and my bed… thought I was done for!!!
I think it was called “the hand”. A man had cut off his hand and after he died the hand went around and killed people. At 7 scared me to death. Looked under beds. Every where for a year. Sisters got in trouble for taking me to a midnight scary show lol
Night of the Living Dead. The one zombie snacking on someones head was all it took for me. I still don’t think I’ve ever watched it from start to finish. But all time scary freaked out was The Shining. I will never watch that one alone while it’s snowing.
Wizard of Oz…those flipping flying monkeys still scare me! And I still can’t get thru The Grudge, as soon as the black hair comes down the wall I am done!!!!!!!!
This was not a movie but anyone out there remember The Twilight Zone episode called the Grim Reaper LOL. It starred William Shatner and Natalie Shafer. That creepy portrait of that skeleton that bled then you looked at the portrait and the skeleton wasn’t there.
Th a WIZARD of OZ. Those Dam flying MONKEY ! The move and a night. I had to have my mother pick me up. There were hundred s flying monkey s in the trees.
As a Country kid growing up in the 50s and 60s, I can’t say I was ever traumatized by an movie. I guess we were a little less protected than kids today, we were exposed to many things that we considered a normal part of life that would for sure scare the heck out of kids today.
The Sentinel, not the TV show. The movie from the 70’s where one guardian watched the gates of Hell and when the gates were breached, thousands of deformed creatures attacked. The movie itself was scary. In the paper the next morning it said a large number of the deformed people were recruited from hospitals and freak shows with added make up. The amputees and many of the unfortunate deformed people were real. THAT’s when I really got scared!
The Thing….1950 ? Monster frozen in ice. in the North Pole (if I remember the story). Comes back to life…They lay an electric grid on the floor and fry him in the end…..AT 5 Y/O, this was pretty bad.
My mom scared me to death telling me about Psycho so I never watched it and didn’t like showering alone in the house at night. I finally broke down and watched it in my 50s and couldn’t believe I was so frightened. He’s stabbing her to death and she doesn’t even scream!!
The Day the Earth Stood Still. We had a couple of empty lots next to our house. When I went to bed I could see them right out of my bedroom window. I was sure that a flying saucer would land there. I didn’t get much sleep!
Louis Major THE FLY.
My brother was very young and we were watching this movie on a large movie screen theater in Atlantic City and he got up and was running out of the threater. I’ll never forget it.
Exorcist, still unable to watch it!
the wizard of oz, the witch that got crushed under the house, i was scared to go to bed, thinking the witch was under my bed

And Jaws, I grew up near the beach.
Bambi!!! I was so hysterical after the forest fire scene, that I was screaming and sobbing. My mother had to take me out of the theater!

I couldn’t then, and I can’t to this day, watch “old yeller.” I heard about it, and was warned. even the song “old shep” chokes me up. I’m 77 yo.

The Salem’s Lot vampire kid floating across a dark window with his pale face and scratching fingers…as a kid i had to close the curtains at night
First scary movie I ever saw was The Spiral Staircase. I rewatched as an adult and it really wasn’t even scary. Another one was called Them.
Th a WIZARD of OZ. Those Dam flying MONKEY ! The move and a night. I had to have my mother pick me up. There were hundred s flying monkey s in the trees.
Dracula with Christopher Lee and Peter Cushion when I got a bit older it was The Exorcist scared the crap out of me that head spinning around scary.
