I have my Grandma’s buttons , I am 74, so some of mine are pretty old, but kids love to play with them, I make up stories, about the kind of people that would wear them, and the kind of clothes they would be sewn on,teaching them history at the same time.
When I was a small child, my grandma made quilts and she let me sit beside her and gave me a needle and a long thread and let me string buttons from her tin button box.
A snapshot in time. Rays of sunlight peered through button laden stairs. Crumbling concrete surrounded her and the soft crunch of plastic echoed throughout an eternity of silence. She pressed the 9mm to her temple as a single tear rolled down her soft cheek. It was time to go….
Looks like everyone wants to collect buttons. My mother had a box full of buttons, I had no idea where she got them all. But it always seemed that even with all the buttons she had, there was always buttons she did not have.
Maybe some day-soon- we will see that and many other of our shuttered factories–open and operating again.Looking forward to see labels “MADE IN THE USA’ again
