When I listen to this song I think of someone I love dearly who lives across the Atlantic Ocean over in Northern Ireland. It’s a struggle for me every day to think that someone who means so much to me is so far away, but when I hear this song I feel a strong emotional connection with Cuomo because he sings of my despair. This is without a doubt my favourite song on the album due to my deep connections to its meaning.

Of course Weezer "gets" this album. Rivers gets pissed off at all the nitpicking fans who only want Pinkerton and the Blue Album every time a record comes out. He’s said in multiple interviews that he wishes people would just be excited for the musical progression that the band will follow. Obviously they’re not just writing pop music, or Raditude and Hurley wouldn’t be albums that existed.

Two words . . . Chiaki Kuriyama, aka Gogo Yubari, the schoolgirl bodyguard of yakuza boss O-Ren Ishii (Lucy Liu) from Kill Bill fame. I can see how any guy could get wrapped around the axle for a Japanese hottie. She’s 28 now, but she defined iconic Japanese schoolgirl for all of us . . . (except the ninja stuff!) . . . . "and you’re way across the sea" . . . yup, been there, got that T shirt.

Of course it’s creepy, it’s Pinkerton. All the lyrics are confessional and awkward. That’s the beauty of it. Sadly, no one, even Weezer gets that, and they’ve resorted now to writing basically pop music.
