@WheelchairConversion Try going up/down a 45 degree hill with that. It’ll roll. What’s great about Challenger is it’s gyroscope chair that moves back while going downhill to prevent roll over and vice-versa, also it has larger wheels that can climb staires, plus it’s much lighter & narrower than your version which means longer battery life. I like to see Segway chairs advance so they can climb stairs, they’re the lightest, fastest & most versatile with 20 mile range & better batteries.
My story
My life took a complete turn seven years ago while I was working in Italy. I went to a swimming pool one afternoon and after asking the lifeguard about the depth of the pool, I jumped with confidence that it was deep enough. I’m a very good swimmer, but because the pool was not as deep as I was told it was, I hit the bottom of the pool with my head and fractured my spine, becoming paralyzed from the shoulders down. I was taken to a hospital in Verona and had an emergency operation. The doctors told my family that there was a chance I would die during the surgery, but God had a different plan for me.
After my accident, everything has changed and every day is a new battle for me. I’ve been doing physical therapy in Techirghiol, Romania, since after my surgery and I’m very grateful to the great team of specialists that are working with me. My mother has become my full-time caretaker and always does her best to ensure I’m comfortable and have everything I need. My parents are sacrificing a lot to minimize my suffering. I don’t have many friends left, but those who are still with me are the real friends, who are always there to encourage me.
I cannot stay in my wheelchair for more than five hours because my legs swell and the muscles of my back hurt; therefore, I spend most of the time in bed. Whenever I need to move, my mother has to lift me and help me to get into a different position. I do not know what it feels like not to be in pain. I’m always in pain and have frequent muscle spasms.
To make my life a little easier and to keep my mother from having to lift me to and from bed, I need a wheelchair that would help me sit vertically and horizontally. My mother has been lifting me for 7 years now and her back and arms hurt. I would also love to become more independent and be able to do more things on my own. I have searched for a wheelchair that would give me this level of comfort, but my parents cannot afford to buy one.
Such a wheelchair would help me stand on my own and I would not need assistance at all times. The chair would allow me to be in different positions and help me do most of the activities without anyone’s help. Another major benefit would be an improvement with my kidney condition. I have had lots of kidney infections, but if I’m able to stand often, that would help prevent further infections. I’m very optimistic and I still hope that something may be discovered that will help me improve my situation. I’m thankful for life and for my supportive family.

The benefits of the special wheelchair

Doctors describe the following benefits of standing vertically:
1. Prevents contractions or blockage of ankles, knees, and hips.
2. Promotes a larger area of movements: spine, hips, ankle
3. Reduces muscular spasms
4. Prevents osteoporosis and reduces hypercalcemia
5. Improves renal function, reduces the risk of stone formation (kidney and gallbladder), prevents and helps urinary tract infections
6. Prevents the formation of sores
7. Improves the circulation of the blood and strengthens heart function
8. Improves the digestive tract
9. Normalizes the function of the respiratory system
10. Strengthens the hips
11. Maintains or improves bone density
Psychological advantages:
1. Promotes independence and better self-imagine.
2. Promotes activity and mobility in the vertical position
3. Allows participation in activities that require standing
4. Allows individuals to become more productive
5. Eye to eye contact with people
I’ve been looking into getting a new power wheelchair and being from Canada I need something that can handle winter conditions without any trouble, ie. deep snow. I know this is an old model but it looks like it could easily handle a few centimetres of snow. Maybe there is something even better today for me.
Gostaria de saber se tem representante no Brasil
